Komische Opera House

Berlin’s music scene is famously associated with the hardcore techno of its most exclusive clubs, but for those who want to dip their toes into a more classical style, Komische Opera House offers a refreshingly contemporary take on it.

One of three working opera houses in Berlin, Komische from the outside looks like any other building in the busy district of Mitte. Once inside you will notice a grand staircase and a red carpet that ushers you to the impressive auditorium. A seat in the top tier will allow you to appreciate the spectacular hanging chandelier and renaissance inspired architecture that wraps itself around the room. Whatever opera, operetta, or musical you go and see will leave you awe inspired. A visit to Komische will show you that opera can be exciting despite its reputation as being the past time of the older generations.

Take a chance and buy the cheapest ticket on a weekday evening; these are usually for restrictive seating but it is often the case that more expensive seats are left empty and free for you to snap up. Also note that all seats offer digital translation in multiple languages to read if you’re struggling with the German being warbled impressively on stage.
